#PracticeDrishti
Dear Practice Yoga Community,
I am writing to update you, as well as thank you all for your continued support and love. We are so blessed to have such wonderful people surrounding us.
Annaleigh has 3 more weeks of chemo and then surgery at the beginning of November. There is more chemo following the surgery and we are marking each milestone as we pass it. Breaking this process down has been a great way to not get overwhelmed and just deal with each day as it comes, as well as letting us celebrate the small victories along the way.
Although I would never have asked for this to have happened to one of my children, this crisis has created an opportunity/necessity for me to practice the tools I have been developing on my mat for the past 30+ years. I have tapped into the power of my Drishti like never before. Drishti is more than simply where we focus; it refers to the power of our focus to harness and direct our thoughts and energy. I have set my Drishti on a complete recovery for Annaleigh and when my gaze wanders, I catch it and bring it back into focus. This is no different than when I get distracted during my practice. My ability to refocus during class is serving me now that the stakes are higher than they have ever been and I am able to experience equanimity in a situation that incites great fear. I keep hearing the voice of my teacher Baron Baptiste in my head saying, “Set your gaze." My Drishti is set and my eyes are on the prize!
This crisis has also offered me the opportunity to receive support at a whole new depth. This is definitely out of my comfort zone and I know that if I am going to be the person that I want to be for my family, then I also need to be open and receive all the love that is offered to me. So I graciously thank you for all the hugs, words of encouragement, shared tears, text messages, cards, emails, and prayers. All are received with love and gratitude. I will keep you updated as we move through this personal and also universal journey.
In Peace and Light!
